A fulfillment of Daniel 9:27 from the Talmud, That Explains the Abomination of Desolation.

A fulfillment of Daniel 9:27 from the Talmud

Four signs of many that reveal Jesus of Nazareth as the cut-off Messiah who made all sacrifices and oblations in the Temple to cease.

Daniel 9:27 “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week, he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

Here we see the prophet warning us that after the messiah is cutoff, all the oblation would have ceased. Anyone who continued to offer these blood sacrifices of bulls and rams became a partaker of an abomination that only made him desolate and they would be punished in the end for Jesus the Lamb of God fulfilled all sacrifice and oblations to the satisfaction of the Father.

It is recorded in the Talmud that Rabbis and the children of Israel observed the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy immediately after AD 30 when Jesus was crucified. Since the physical temple was still standing until it’s destruction in AD 70, The priests who had not yet understood the divine mystery of the Messiah Jesus continued to offer their usual sacrifices of the morning and evening oblations and also the Yom-Kippur (Day of Atonement) sacrifices but business was not as usual…

In Mas Yoma 39b:4-6 the Talmud reads……’Our Rabbis taught during the last 40 years before the destruction of the temple, the lot for the Lord did not come up in the RIGHT HAND; nor did the CRIMSON-COLOURED STRAP become white; nor did the WESTERNMOST LIGHT shine; and the doors of the Hekal (the temple/sanctuary) would open by themselves.

The lot marked “Of the Lord” never came up in the right hand of the high priest.

To begin with, during Yom-Kippur, the high priest would present the two identical he-goats before the Lord to cast lots on them. One lot was “For the Lord” and the other lot was “For Azazel”. Now, it was viewed as a good omen of the Lord’s approval if the priest drew out the lot written “For the Lord” with his right hand. This was the common outcome before AD 30 however, for forty years until the physical destruction of the temple in AD 70, the lot written “For the Lord” never came up in the right hand as recorded in:

 Talmud-Mas, Yoma 39b 4-6:

“Our Rabbis taught: During the last forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the lot (For the Lord) did not come up in the right hand”

This shows that the sacrifices offered after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ were not approved by God.

The crimson-coloured strap did not turn white

Secondly, It was procedure that the he-goat with the lot marked “For Azazel” would bear a crimson strap tied to it into the wilderness while a similar crimson strap would be tied in the Temple, which would miraculously turn white before the congregation of Israel, a clear sign that the Lord had accepted the scapegoat for the removal of their sins as well as the blood sacrifice for the covering of their sins for that year.

However, as Talmud-Mas, Yoma 39b 4-6: “Nor did the crimson-coloured strap become white”

Talmud-Mas. Rosh Hashanah 31b …” For forty years before the destruction of the Temple, the thread of scarlet in the Temple placed after the other piece was tied to the scape-goat, never turned white. But remained Red”

This clearly showing that the Lord did not accept animal blood sacrifices for the forgiveness of sins anymore. Why? Because Jesus the perfect sacrifice had already been offered ushering in a new covenant, thus animal sacrifices were nothing but an abomination before the Lord which only made all those who offered them desolate and unable to attain unto repentance through that old covenant method.

The westernmost light of the Menorah began to go out with the rest

Further, there was a continuous wonder witnessed in the Holy place which was: the light of one of the candlesticks of the Menorah never went out even after the oil ran out. It was the Westernmost candle which the priests would kindle all the other candles after refilling them with oil from it.

Talmud-Shabbath 22b:6-8…” But it was a testimony to mankind that the Divine presence rests in Israel. What is the testimony? Said Rab: That was the branch (of the candelabrum) in which the same quantity of oil was poured as into the rest, and yet the priest kindled (the others) from it and ended therewith…”

However, after AD 30, that light of the westernmost candle began to go out with the rest whenever the oil ran out. This miracle ceased.

In Mas Yoma 39b:4-6 the Talmud readsnor did the WESTERNMOST LIGHT shine;”

Did this mean that the Lord had abandoned Israel? Far from it for it meant that all mankind, Jew or Gentile were invited to come to the Father through His ordained way-belief in Jesus Christ the Messiah.

The doors of the Temple began to open by themselves.

Lastly, an impossible-phenomena took place in the Holy place that opened the Temple to all humanity. The doors of the Temple, which divided the Holy place from the outer court began to fling open by themselves.

In Mas Yoma 39b:4-6 the Talmud readsthe doors of the Hekal (the temple/sanctuary) would open by themselves”.

This was such a spectacle since these doors were so large they required several men to open or close them. According to Josephus, the doors separating the outer court from the Holy place were about 49 feet high and 24.5 feet wide and could only be opened by several men.

This miracle coupled with the torn vail that covered the Holy of Holies indicated the access that all of us were given after the death of Jesus to seek the Father without any human mediator but only through Jesus as our mediator as it is written in 1 Timothy 2:5 “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”

With this fulfillment of Daniel 9:27, Jesus had literally destroyed the physical Temple and the works of worship that were to be done therein long before the actual destruction of the Temple in AD 70. He destroyed it and rebuilt the temple in three days which is the body of Christ, the church made up of all who believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah for the salvation of their souls.

Having seen that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, His death brought an end to all animal sacrifices that were offered for the forgiveness of sin. Therefore, anyone who from the death and resurrection of Jesus offered animal blood sacrifices unto God was considered to be “overspreading abominations which only made him and his sacrifice desolate, for such sacrifices were no longer acceptable before God as it written… “for overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

In Matthew 24:15 “When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso-readeth, let him understand:)”

Here, Jesus, confirming the prophecy in Daniel 9 as the Messiah that was cut-off and caused all sacrifices and oblations to cease, forewarned us about the events that would take place just before his return: where a physical Temple will be built again. Men shall revert to offering animal blood sacrifices therein, just as they did under the old covenant. He tells those who shall witness this to flee and to reject any form of “Christ/Messiah” that shall be presented in those days, either in the form of a person or a sacrifice. He advises that the elect should persevere in faith in him, until His return, where he will destroy the son of perdition (2 Thess 2:4) with the brightness of his coming. He cautions, (whoso-readeth, let him understand:) Amen.

(This Teaching is based on my understanding of Daniel 9:27, with insights from the book ‘The Messiah Codes’ by Luis Narciso.)

Reflection: Only the KJV translation of Daniel 9:26,27 can allow us to arrive at the above interpretation. All the other translations present “The prince who shall come” (The Anti-Christ) as the one who shall cause the sacrifices and oblation to cease, and who shall set up an abomination of desolation in the Temple. This may cause many to err in interpretation and thereby err in understanding. What do you think?

Frequently Asked Questions on Daniel 9:27

  • Who is the “he” in Daniel 9:27, and what does this verse mean?
The blog explains that “he” refers to the Messiah (Jesus). Daniel 9:27 says that after confirming God’s covenant the Messiah will be “cut off” and then all temple sacrifices will end In this view, Jesus’ death causes the Temple sacrifices to cease – fulfilling the verse’s promise that “sacrifice and oblation [will] cease” when the Messiah is cut off.

  • How do Talmudic records show this prophecy was fulfilled?
The post cites the Jewish Talmud (a key collection of rabbinical teachings) about unusual Temple signs in the 40 years after Jesus’ death. For example, on Yom Kippur, the high priest’s lot never came up “For the Lord,” and the scarlet ribbon left in the Temple on the Day of Atonement never turned white. These miracles stopped happening, indicating God was no longer accepting the old sacrifices. The blog points out that these events match Daniel’s warning that after the Messiah is cut off, animal offerings become unacceptable.

  • How did Jesus’ death fulfill the prophecy and end temple sacrifices?
According to the blog, Jesus’ crucifixion accomplished Daniel 9:27. It explains that by dying and rising, Jesus “destroyed the physical Temple” (in a spiritual sense) and “rebuilt” it in three days as His own body (the Church). As the perfect Lamb of God, His death “brought an end to all animal sacrifices” making any further offerings “abominations” (no longer accepted). In other words, Jesus became the final atonement, so believers no longer need temple sacrifices.

  • What lessons does this prophecy hold for believers today?
The prophecy teaches that through Christ, we now have direct access to God without animal rituals. The blog highlights Jesus’ own warning in Matthew 24:15: if a new “abomination of desolation” appears (interpreted as a rebuilt temple with sacrifices), believers should flee and refuse any false Messiah. The lesson is to trust Christ as our only Mediator (1 Timothy 2:5) and not return to obsolete rituals. Daniel 9:27 thus calls Christians to remain faithful to Jesus, watching for signs of false worship in the future.

  • Wasn’t this prophecy already fulfilled in ancient times? Does it really matter now?
While the blog teaches that Jesus fulfilled Daniel 9:27 in AD 30–33, it insists the prophecy is still relevant. Jesus himself told readers to understand this warning (Matthew 24:15). The post also notes that most Bible versions mistranslate the verse by saying “the prince who shall come” (implying a future Antichrist) instead of clearly naming the Messiah. The implication is that Christians should pay attention to Daniel 9:27 today. It remains a meaningful warning about rejecting false substitutes for Christ, rather than a closed, irrelevant event
